Lunar New Year Celebrated around the World

Paper money, called spirit money, is burnt in a bucket by an ethnic-Chinese Thai family in a traditional Chinese New Year ritual, believing that they will be passed onto their ancestors, at the front entrance of their shop-house home in Bangkok, Thailand, 18 February 2015. Food is laid on the table at the front of the house in a tradition to placate the mythical beast who is said to come on the first day of every New Year. Thousands of Thais of ethnic Chinese origin join Chinese around the world to celebrate Chinese New Year with customs starting on new years eve, 18 February, ahead of 19 February, the first day of the Year of the Goat. The festival is called also called Spring Festival. (Photo by Barbara Walton/EPA)
