Visitors tour the depths of the Vincennes quarry during a press visit, near Paris, France, 05 August 2015. Located in the bois de Vincennes forest on the outskirts of Paris, the Vincennes quarry, active from the Middle Ages until 1860, provided the stone and limestone used for the construction and remodelling of the city of Paris as we know it today. After its closure, the quarry's dark and damp galleries were briefly used to grow mushrooms, known as “Champignons de Paris”. Since 2005, the city of Paris has launched renovation works to secure the vast stretches of underground galleries 20 meters below ground, in hopes to one day open them to the public.
