The Day in Photos – August 14, 2015

Sculptures of soldiers from the Chinese Expeditionary Force that fought against Japanese invasion during World War II (WWII) are pictured at the Battle of Songshan mountain memorial site in Longling county of Yunnan province, China, 14 August 2015. The memorial site features 402 sculptures of soldiers of the Chinese Expeditionary Force, which helped defeat Japanese forces occupying parts of Tengchong and Longling county during the World War II. Inspired by the “Terracotta warriors”, the sculpture group created by sculptor Li Chunhua include child soldiers, infantry and artillery troops as well as veterans. Events are taking place around the World marking the 70th Anniversary of the WWII Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day, on 15 August) which marks the day Japan officially accepted the terms of surrender imposed by the by Allied Forces in the Pacific conflict.
