Bavarian's Almabtrieb Ceremony

Almabtrieb is the ceremonial spectacle of driving down of cattle with colorful headdresses from the mountain pastures into the winter homes as a sign of an undamaged Alpine summer. Here: Bavarian farmers bring their cows to a boat to be transported over the picturesque Lake Koenigssee on October 6, 2014. Before the winter season approaches, the farmers have to drive their cattle down from their Alpine meadows to a narrow valley that can only be reached by boat. (Photo by Michaela Rehle/Reuters)
