October 1-5 in History

The U.S. forces in Britain have held their first manoeuvres which stressed the use of chemical warfare. One of the infantry units was attacked by enemy planes which dropped smoke bombs to break up their fire power and also simulated mustard gas. Mechanized troops, including scouts on motor-cycles jeeps and scout cars were thrown into the attack and flame throwers were used to clean out strong points to give the American troops a taste of modern warfare.
