The Temple's AIDS hospice is the largest of its kind in Thailand, providing care for HIV positive patients as well as people living with AIDS. To date, the hospice, established in 1992, has cared for over 10,000 people. The World Health Organization World AIDS Day falls 01 December 2011. Figures by UNAIDS and Thailand's Disease Control Department show that there are more than 400,000 people living with HIV+ in Thailand, with roughly 90 percent of them having contracted the virus through unprotected sex.
