A Look at Life in Cuba

Alexi Pupo, 23, was born in this apartment complex called, Panel 2, in La Fe, Cuba on August 8, 2015. The land was once an American military base. He is bathing his horse, El Tremendo, which he uses for transportation with a cart. La Fe, is a town that was founded by U.S. citizens and originally named Santa Fe. Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth) is about 40 miles wide, it is the seventh-largest landmass in the Caribbean, and one of its most sparsely populated, with only about 80,000 residents. It is not part of any province and is therefore administered directly by the central government. It was once inhabited by pirates and is believed to be the inspiration for the novel “Treasure Island.” (Photo by Sarah L. Voisin/The Washington Post)
