A picture made available on 22 January 2016 shows the world's smallest artificial cardiac pacemaker at the University Hospital of Lord's Transfiguration in Poznan, Poland, 21 January 2016. Polish doctors have implanted the world's smallest artificial cardiac pacemaker. The device is 24 mm long, 6 mm in diameter, it weighs 1 gram and is 90 percent smaller and lighter than other pacemakers used traditionally. The pacemaker which need no electrode is placed directly in the chamber of the heart. The new device, far more expensive than traditional single-chamber pacemakers, will be implanted into patients who cannot use traditional devices. (Photo by Marek Zakrzewski/EPA)
