West Germany's Central Bank (Deutsche Bundesbank) stored some 20 billion German marks of emergency notes in two underground bunkers, one in Frankfurt the other in Cochem, between 1964-1988 during the cold war. The bunker in Cochem, in a quaint residential area, with the entrance disguised over a normal house lies thirty meters (100 feet) under the house with an impregnable concrete bunker of 8,700 square meters (93,000 square feet) containing 300 meters (1000 feet) of tunnels.
