The Day in Photos – April 12, 2016

This picture taken on April 10, 2016 shows a dummy representing French Prime Minister Manuel Valls hanged to the “Statue of the Republic” during the “Nuit Debout” (Up All Night) movement on the Place de la Republique in Paris. The banner reads : “The waltz is over”, a word play associating the name of Manuel Valls and the waltz dance, written “valse” in French. In the heady new world of “Up All Night” it was March 41 on Sunday to the people gathered in a main Paris square to share their aspirations for change. It is their way of keeping track of a protest movement that has seen people flock to the Place de la Republique to air their grievances, seek strength in numbers and strategise for a better future every night since March 31.
