Lotus-shaped illuminated lanterns float during Vesak celebrations on Beira Lake in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 22 May 2016. Vesak is a holiday with a majority population of Buddhists. The day marks the birth, enlightenment and demise of Buddha and is celebrated in Sri Lanka with illuminated pandals, lanterns and “dansals” or free offer of food, drinks and refreshment to the wayfarers.
