No Food, No Teachers

In this June 1, 2016, Maria Arias packs her backpack in her bedroom, decorated with her middle name “Gabriela”, in Caracas, Venezuela. Chatty and so studious her classmates call her “Wikipedia”, Arias started the year at a school with dreams of becoming an accountant and moving to Paris. Her parents saved up to buy her new notebooks, one for each subject, but nine months later, they remain mostly empty due to her teachers not showing up for class, or entire school days being cancelled.
