According to local news reports, clashes broke out between the Indian Police and protesters in Maisuma area of Srinagar when a protest march of separatists was not allowed to reach Lal Chowk, the city centre. The separatists had called for a protest in Lal Chowk against what they call conspiracies to change the demography of the Muslim-majority Jammu Kashmir by setting up Sainik colonies (Colonies for retired Indian Army men) and separate township for displaced Kashmiri Pandits (Hindus).
