Petersburg, Va., site of the Civil War’s longest siege and Civil War Adventure Camp on July 23, 2016. “My mom would kill me if I was on the other side”, confesses 16-year-old Confederate Joseph Lunsford who hails from Kentucky. The young people participating had the option to join either the North or the South for the battle reenactments. Photo was made with a filter that simulates a hand-tinted vintage photo. For 10 years, Pamplin Historical Park has run historical Civil War camps for children and adults, one of many in the region. Building interest at a young age is a way to continue interest in the war and history. A group representing the Young Marines participated in activities there (including battle reenactments) over two days despite the oppressive heat and very basic living conditions. They wore kepis and wool jackets even in the 100 degree heat. The goal was to reenact and have a better understanding of the conditions of the Civil War. (Photo by Michael S.
