In this July 31, 1974, file photo, a parachute opens behind the rocket-powered Sky Cycle X-2, containing American motorcycle stuntman Evel Knievel, as he attempts to jump the Snake River Canyon, Idaho. Knievel decided to ride a rocket-powered motorcycle a mile-wide chasm in Utah's Snake River Canyon on Sept. 8, 1974. He didn't make it. The cycle crashed on the canyon floor but fortunately for Knievel his parachute deployed prematurely, likely saving his life. (Photo by AP Photo)
