Participants of a “swim accross the canal” race swim through the 6,346-meter long Corinth canal, near the city of Corinth, Greece on September 27, 2016. The canal cuts at straight line the Corinth Isthmus with the width of around 23 meters, and the depth ranging between 7 and 8 meters. The Corinthian Isthmus is a narrow strip of land that connects mainland Greece with the Peloponnese, and the canal that has been opened shortens the sea route between the Ionian and the Aegean Seas.
