The Day in Photos – October 10, 2016

In this October 9, 2016 handout photo provided by the office of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, shows Governor Cuomo and MTA Chairman Tom Pendergast(R) inspecting a Long Island Rail Road train that derailed and collided with a work train late October 8, along the mainline in New Hyde Park, New York. The LIRR train was heading eastbound on the mainline when the first three cars of a 12-car train derailed about one half mile east of the New Hyde Park Station. A New York commuter train derailed outside the city late Saturday, authorities said, without immediately confirming reports that dozens have minor injuries. “The 9:22PM train from Penn due Huntington at 10:28PM has been canceled due to a train derailment near New Hyde Park”, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) said on Twitter. According to the governor's office of the approximately 600 passengers on board at the time of the incident, 33 people sustained injuries, none of which were considered to be life-threatening.
