Rope access specialist Simon Ginn, of contractors Fountains, abseils down the Chirk aqueduct during vital maintenance work to remove unwanted vegetation which has taken root in crevices of the Grade II listed aqueduct on December 14, 2016 in Wrexham, Wales. The work is part of a wider Canal & River Trust project to protect heritage structures along the Llangollen and Montgomery canals. The Chirk aqueduct stands next to the rail viaduct and was built by famous canal engineer Thomas Telford between 1796 and 1801. Chirk Aqueduct is 70-foot (21 m) high and 710-foot (220 m) long and carries the Llangollen Canal across the Ceiriog Valley. (Photo by Christopher Furlong/Getty Images)
