Dozens of Shiite mourners were detained by Indian Police after they tried to bring out a Muharram procession through the city center. Authorities had imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar to prevent Shiite mourners from taking out mourning processions on the 8th day of Muslim holy month of Muharram. Authorities have banned main Muharram procession in city center after the eruption of militancy in the region in 1989.
