A child, studying under the guidance of Initiative for Viable Education (IVE) for underprivileged children, paints an idol of Goddess Laxmi as he prepares it ahead of Diwali festival in Amritsar, India on October 14, 2017. During Diwali, the earthen lamps are used to illuminate and decorate the entire home and premises, apart from aarti or worship. The Diwali festival will be celebrated on 19 October. IVE is a learning center and non-profit institution working for slum children's education and many of the children studying there work as day laborers, rag pickers or belong to families with low income.
