“Vodounsi” (voodoo followers) celebrate National Voodoo Day, Ouidah, Benin, 10 January 2018 (issued 11 January 2018). The people of Benin celebrated the National Voodoo Festival with guests from all over the world. Vodun is an ancient religion practiced by some 30 million people in the West African nations of Benin, Togo and Ghana. With its countless deities, animal sacrifice and spirit possession, voodoo, as it is known to the rest of the world, is one of the most misunderstood religions on the globe. About 60 percent of the country's 6.3 million people practice voodoo. (Photo by Salym Fayad/EPA/EFE)
