A medic offers a seriously wounded friend a cigarette as he waits for medical evacuation following a North Vietnamese ambush while sweeping through heavy jungle west of Dau Tieng, 40 miles northwest of Saigon in Vietnam, May 15, 1969. The armored unit was hit late in the day after sweeping an area hit by B-52 strikes earlier. Two armored companies were hit by an estimated battalion of NVA hidden in well-fortified bunkers.
