This picture taken on July 21, 2018 shows a man holding his handmade Tezutsu hanabi (handheld fireworks) dedicated to the Toyokawa Susanoo Shrine as a part of a Shinto ritual in Toyokawa, central Japan.
Every year, each male member of the shrine makes his own set of Tezutsu hanabi (handheld fireworks) from bamboo covered by straw ropes with a loaded gun and metal powder. Tezutsu hanabi is widely seen in the Mikawa region, the home area of Ieyasu Tokugawa who was the first shogun (military governor) and founder of the Edo Shogunate (1603-1867).
