Some Vintage Photos, Part 1/2

In this handout from the U.S. Coast Guard, the flag-draped bodies of two Navy men who died from wounds suffered in the Battle of Iwo Jima, are buried at sea from the deck of a Coast Guard invasion transport off the coast of Iwo Jima, April 6, 1945. The ship's chaplain reads the burial rites over the deceased as their comrades stand silently, some with heads bowed. The bodies are slipped over the side from beneath the flag for which these heroes gave their lives. (Photo by AP Photo/U.S. Coast Guard)
