A new hospital bed, called the Stryker CircOlectric Universal bed, designed for more comfortable positions for the hospital patient, is modeled by Jo Marie Smith at the Annual Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons in San Francisco, October 18, 1960. The hoops serve as a built-in overhead frame for the attachment of traction apparatus available as accessories for the bed. They act as grasping and exercise bars for the recuperating patient. Power is supplied by a 1/3 horsepower motor. (Photo by Clarence Hamm/AP Photo)
