A miner in East Java, Indonesia, carries sulphur in reed baskets that weigh up to 90kgs. Twice a day he climb two miles (3km) up the mountain, then heads downward more than 200 metres into the Ijen volcano, where the sulphur crystals form. He works without any protection in stifling heat and breathing sulphurous gas that burns his lungs. (Photo by Tadeja Horvat/The Guardian)
