A peacock spreads its plumes during its dance to attract a mate at Damminna, 270 kms from Colombo, Sri Lanka, 18 March 2019. The peacock or peafowl (Pavo cristatus) are commonly found in the dry areas of Sri Lanka. While only the male birds possess the colourful and majestic tail plumes, the Hindus regard these birds with veneration since they believe that it is the mount of God Skanda or Murugan.
