This 1969 photo provided by Bill Rowntree/PPL Media shows Robin Knox-Johnston waving aboard his 32-foot yacht Suhaili off the coast of Falmouth, England, after becoming the first man to sail solo non-stop around the globe. In the spring of 1969, less than three months before man landed on the moon, Knox-Johnston achieved the nautical equivalent of climbing Mount Everest when he became the first man to sail alone around the world nonstop. GPS hadn't been invented, so the veteran of the British merchant navy made his way around the globe the old-fashioned way, with a sextant. (Photo by Bill Rowntree/PPL Media via AP Photo)
