A Look at Life in Venezuela

Ronaldo, 19, searches for valuable objects in the Guaire River in Caracas, Venezuela, 13 May 2019. Because of the crisis, hundreds of youngsters gather every day in the river, used to dump sewage water and industrial waste, in order to rescue valuable objects they can later sell. According to these young 'miners', if they can manage to find any gold object, such as an earring, collar or ring, they can sell each gram of gold for in between 130,000 and 200,000 Venezuelan bolivars (roughly between 23 and 35 US dollar depending on the currency's devaluation), although silver and bronze are also worth selling.
