A Look at Life in Africa

Adicko Pierre, 62, an Ivorian luthier (L) plays a guitar made by him, in the yard of his workshop in Abobo, a district of Abidjan, Ivory Coast on September 30, 2020, a day before International Music Day. International Music Day is celebrated every year on October 1. It was established in 1975 by the International Music Council (CIM), itself founded in 1949 by UNESCO. Music plays an essential role for many people and is a powerful vector for intercultural rapprochement. The International Day dedicated to it aims primarily to highlight its importance and that of musicians on a global scale, and to promote the social value that its status as a common language confers on it as a factor of peace and understanding.
