International conservation groups have issued a list of the earth's 100 most threatened animals, plants and fungi on September 11, 2012, among them the Tarzan's chameleon, and say urgent action is needed to protect them. The groups identified the species, which live in 48 countries, in a report presented to a global conservation forum on the southern South Korean island of Jeju.
