A giant puppet called MOCCO is seen during a Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics cultural event on July 17, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games are hosting a “Rediscover Tohoku – MOCCO's Journey from Tohoku to Tokyo” event in the Japanese garden within Shinjuku Park, the final destination of MOCCO’s journey from Tohoku to Tokyo which began in May 2021, 10 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake. MOCCO is the brainchild of children from Tohoku and was created by them in schools across the region. The puppet has collected messages from people during its journey across three of Tohoku’s prefectures – Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima – all of which were affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.
