A Look at Life in Nepal

Temporary police personnel, locally called Myadi, practice with canes during their 10-day training in Kathmandu, Nepal, 21 April 2022. Nepal's government recruited around 100,000 civilians aged between18 and 54 to support security forces for the upcoming local elections. The selected candidates are required to go through the 10-day training which includes physical tests, basic security lessons, cane-fighting training, skills that involve dealing with the public, mitigation and knowledge of the electoral code. Each Myadi police service person will be armed with a cane. Nepal will hold its local elections on 13 May 2022. (Photo by Narendra Shrestha/EPA/EFE)
