Young girls pose for camera while participating in Ihi ceremony held at Chandeswari Temple in Bhaktapur, Nepal on November 27, 2022. During the ceremony, the young girls aged 5 to 9 years of Newar community are married to an ever-fresh fruit “Bel”, which is considered to be an incarnation of lord Vishnu. Similarly, Bahra (or Gufa) is another ceremony where the young girls are symbolically married to Sun God. It is believed that this ritual prevents girls from the stigma of widowhood as even if their husbands pass away later in life, they would still be married to the gods Vishnu and Sun.
