India last Week, Part 2/3

Widows covered in flower petals and colour celebrate Holi on March 06, 2023 in Vrindavan, India. Widows from Vrindavan and Varanasi marked Holi, the Hindu spring festival which features celebrations with coloured powders and water, at a temple in the city. The event was organised by an Indian NGO, Sulabh International, that is trying to improve the condition of widows who are living in government shelter homes .The homes are a haven for many Hindu widows, who find themselves homeless and destitute after the deaths of their spouses. Every year, celebrations for Holi are a highlight, bringing much-needed levity into the lives of the widows. (Photo by Ritesh Shukla/Getty Images)
