Formerly abandoned dogs walk around the place where found shelter in Cherkaski Tyshky, Kharkiv region, Ukraine, 27 March 2023. Local resident Yelena and her assistants adopted abandoned dogs whose owners had left during the evacuation. Now she has more than 90 dogs, which she feeds and provides medical assistance for. The Ukrainian army pushed Russian forces from occupied territory northeast of the country in counterattacks in the Autumn of 2022. Kharkiv and surrounding areas have been the target of heavy shelling since February 2022, when Russian troops entered Ukraine starting a conflict that has provoked destruction and a humanitarian crisis.
