USA last Week, Part 1/3

A photo taken with a drone shows people kayaking on the Colorado River, flowing south of the Hoover Dam near Boulder, Nevada, USA, 22 April 2023. Lake Mead water level is set to rise 33 feet higher than expected this year due to healthy snowpack levels in the upper Colorado River Basin according to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Seven states (California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico) rely on the water provided by the Colorado River which irrigates 5 million acres of farm land and on which 40 million people depend. The level of water available has dramatically dropped after years of severe drought which prompted the Biden administration, through the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, to release an environmental impact statement draft that proposes to shave water deliveries to California, Nevada and Arizona by as much as one-fourth of what they currently receive.
