The Islamic Emirate's Supreme Leader, Mawlawi Hebatullah Akhundzada, on 02 April 2023 has imposed a strict ban on the cultivation, use, and trafficking of all illicit drugs, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said. This came after the Anti-Narcotics Management Forces of the Balkh Province Police Command reported that in the past year, 2,200 acres of land have been cleared of poppy and hashish cultivation.
