A Look at Life in Turkey

Flamingos and baby flamingos are seen together in Izmir, Turkiye on June 11, 2023. The artificial hatching island in the Gediz Delta, also known as the “Izmir Bird Sanctuary”, is bustling with baby flamingos. The Gediz Delta, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage candidate, is home to hundreds of species, including endangered species, with its rich living resources. The region is home to many water birds every season. In the Gediz Delta thousands of flaminglets are born every year on the 6.5 acre artificial hatching island created in 2012 due to the erosion of the existing natural hatching island by wave erosion.
