Two volunteer veterinarians place a medical catheter on the cat and prepare it for castration surgery, an effort that helps manage the increasing population of wild cats in frontline villages, on October 3, 2023 in Zaporizhzhia region, Ukraine. A group of Ukrainian volunteer veterinarians from Kyiv headed to the village of Tavriyske, 25 km from the Ukraine-Russia war frontline, to administer vaccines, sterilize animals, and treat diseases. Tavriyske is positioned just 15 kilometers from Orihiv, a locality that faces relentless bombardment from artillery and aviation on a daily basis. the southern Zaporizhzhia region has emerged as one of the most active fronts since Ukraine initiated its counteroffensive during the summer.
