A “Cachacero” (Cuadrillero) parades in his horse during the “Cuadrillas de San Martin” as part of the 56th Folkloric and Tourist International Festival of the “llano” on November 12, 2023 in San Martin, Colombia. The “Cuadrillas de San Martin” is a tradition almost 300 years old in which horsemen in San Martin show their skills in a contest with a series of 10 different games. It is not clear if the tradition comes from Spanish riders or from the Achagua indigenous, but the reason of the games was for fighting the territory between the Galanes, Moros, Guahibos and Cachaceros cultures, representing (in the same order) the Spanish, Arabs, indigenous and Africans. Today, it is one of Colombia's most recognized cultural expressions in the country and abroad. (Photo by Diego Cuevas/Getty Images)
