Visitors celebrate the new year at the Brandenburg Gate on January 01, 2023 in Berlin, Germany. For the past two years amidst the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, there was a national ban on purchasing and setting off fireworks in the country in order to avoid the gathering of crowds thwarting social distancing policies as well as to prevent the overburdening of hospitals. While the ban has been lifted to allow sales and use of fireworks over a period of three days, no official fireworks show as per the annual tradition was held at the Brandenburg Gate.
