A Look at Life in Egypt

Salama Mahmoud Salem, 87 years old, works with his children and grandchildren in the dyeing profession at Salama's laundry on May 16, 2024 in Cairo, Egypt. Salama owns a 120-year-old dye shop that works manually according to the Pharaonic method of dyeing colors and is considered one of the oldest dye houses in Egypt. The dye house, one of the last such operations in Egypt, opened in 1901 and uses a technique of small-batch fabric dyeing that dates back thousands of years. (Photo by Ahmad Hasaballah/Getty Images)
