Yellow billed kites search for scrap along Hann Bay in Dakar, Senegal on November 9, 2023. Hann Bay, which stretches around 14 kilometres, used to be known as one of the most beautiful bays in West Africa, lined with traditional fishing villages, villas, and tourist attractions. For the last 20 years Hann Bay has been at the centre of Dakar’s industrialization with 80 percent of the industry located in this area. Today it is one of Dakar’s most polluted areas, with canals spilling raw sewage and chemicals onto the beach and into the sea. (Photo by John Wessels/AFP Photo)
