Mother and baby goats who have been on fire prevention duty, eating brush and grass vegetation to prevent the spread of potential wildfires on the land of the indigenous San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, get a “thank you” for their work in the form of a “cake” of fruits, vegetables and grains, on July 23, 2024 at a media opportunity on the tribe's land in San Bernardino, California. The tribe's fire department deploys a herd of hundreds of goats during the dry season to help trim the landscape in a natural and regenerative way that also protects the land from harm that could be caused if heavy equipment was used to remove vegetation.
