Dachshunds compete in the 2nd Munich Dachshund Race at the DogWorld Lifestyle Festival on November 3, 2024 in Munich, Germany. Dachshund owners across Germany are concerned over possible new legislation that could lead to the end of breeding and exhibiting of dachshunds. The legislation is aimed at ending the physical suffering of dogs originating from the gene combinations in their breeding. According to the VDH, Germany's biggest association of dog owners, the description of problematic physical attributes in the legislation, including a long body and short legs, would threaten the breeding of dachshunds, as well as other dog races including beagles, Cocker Spaniels and Welsh Pembroke Corgis.
