The peaceful protest by a group of contract teachers in Patna, India took a serious turn after the city police resorted to lathicharge against them on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. The protesting teachers had been demanding that their jobs should be made permanent and they should get equal pay for equal work. The lathicharge took place outside the Bihar Assembly. The police even used water cannons and tear gas shells to disperse the protesters. The contractual teachers have protested number of times recently. Last night too, the police used lathicharge on some agitating teachers, which led to a strong protest by the opposition in both Houses of Bihar Legislature today.
