A Look at Life in Afghanistan

Carpet producers in Afghanistan report a significant boost in exports and production, with about 90% of carpets now reaching international markets as traders related this with improved government support and reduced customs barriers. Despite these gains, industry leaders are calling for further assistance to enhance domestic production and address the high prices of handmade carpets, which have weakened the local market. The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced plans to continue supporting the sector, including facilitating trade and organizing exhibitions, contributing to the export of approximately 3,960 tons of carpets valued at over 15 million US dollars in 2024. This support is also creating job opportunities, particularly for women, in the carpet weaving industry across the country. (Photo by Samiullah Popal/EPA)
