Pictures of the Year 2024, Part 034/240

The Hartza (bear) is reprimanded by a little red riding hood during the carnival in Araquil Valley, Navarra, Spain on February 4, 2024. Moxorrak, Hartza, Aitezarko, Landarra with her Ninia and other characters from a rural past once again became owners and lords in this council of Arakil, a maskarada that ended with the burning of Aitezarko. Moxorroak, young people dressed in white pajamas, face covered, and colored hats carry a broom where they wet it and hit anyone who is not disguised. Hartza, a character who is dressed as a bear, hartza in Basque means bear, carries a chain and is carried by a moxorroak, catches the people of the parade as they walk through the streets of the town. Landarra, a male character who is disguised as a woman, with his face covered, and carries in his arms a wooden log that they call “ninia”, cries inconsolably because the moxorroaks throw it to the ground.
