An undated handout photo made available by the Health Animal Institute of the University of Las Palmas on 10 April 2024, shows a 9.5 kg ambergris stone, valued at more than half a million euros, which was found in the stomach of a sperm whale in La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain. The dead sperm whale was found stranded on Los Nogales beach in La Palma, Canary islands on, 21 May 2023 and the magazine Frontiers in Veterinary Science published its necropsyon 08 April 2024, pointing out that the cause of its death was a toxic megacolon resulting from this huge stone found in its stomach. Although ambergris is a substance produced in the stomach of sperm whales, it is only found in very few of these animals, which makes it a very valued item amongst perfume manufacturers.
